Marketing Connection 3, part of the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce, is hosting a fundraiser on November 19th, 2016 to support our local "Shop With A Cop" program, which is provided by McHenry County Police Charities.
McHenry County Police Charities is a not-for-profit organization offering the "Shop With A Cop" program to McHenry County children in need.
Each child we are able to bring into the program receives a fun-filled day of shopping and activities with an officer from a department in McHenry County. The experience for the participants begins when the children are picked up by an officer in a police vehicle and taken to a local department store. There, they receive gifts of a winter coat and boots, and get to spend $150 on gifts for their families. To complete the experience the participants are taken for breakfast by officers from various agencies.

MC3 Event Info

For the 10th year in a row, MC3, a McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce business networking group, is busy raising funds to support McHenry Police Charities’ Shop With A Cop program. Last year, the group raised about $24,000 for the charity.

With the monies raised by Shop With A Cop, area law-enforcement officers arrive, in their squad cars, at the homes of deserving children who have been nominated for the program by members of the community. The officer then takes the child – sometimes siblings – to an area store where they receive $150 each for holiday shopping. Each child also receives a winter coat, hat, gloves and boots.

To raise money for the program, MC3 members canvas the community in search of donations for the raffles, silent and live auctions at their Nov. 18 fundraising Shop With A Cop party at the McHenry VFW, 3002 Hwy 120 east of the Fox River. Revelers at the party enter to find table after table adorned with a wide variety of gifts they can bid on or, in the case of the raffles, drop a ticket into a prize’s cup.

“The prizes are fantastic,” said David Lammers, the president of MC3. “Last year, the live auction included an African safari.”

Now that’s a party

Beyond the prizes, the MC3 party also includes food, a cash bar and live music. This year, local favorites the Thompson Duo and LOL will provide the live music. The food is served in buffet style.

Richard Rostron, another member of MC3 and owner of Rich Publicity, a content-driven marketing company, said that the bash is one of the best community parties of the year.

“The music is always great, the food is awesome and the prizes are abundant,” he said. “For me, the prizes are a chance to do some of my own holiday shopping. When I have the winning bid or raffle ticket, I can scratch someone’s name off my Christmas list. It’s fun, productive and a great cause.”

The Cover Charge for the party is $5.

How else can you help?

For those who want to help with the fundraiser, one way to do so is to come to the party, have some fun and bid on some of the prizes. Another way is to contribute a prize for the event. Rostron said that there are Sponsor Forms available at:

Those making donations can drop a prize off at the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce office – 1257 N Green St., McHenry, or they can call Wayne Seely to make arrangements: 815-331-0404.
